Gas, Water & Electricity: What to Check Before Renting in Rawalpindi & Islamabad

Ask precise questions about gas
“Gas available” is too vague. Ask whether the property has an active connection, whether the meter is separate, and what residents experience during the hours when you normally cook or heat water. If there is no connection, understand the alternative arrangement and its likely monthly cost.
Understand the water source
Ask whether water comes from a municipal/society supply, bore, shared tank or tanker. Check pressure on the floor you will occupy and ask how often pumping or tanker delivery is normally required. For an upper portion, tank capacity and pump access can matter more than the appearance of the kitchen or bathroom.
Check electricity before signing
Confirm that the meter serving your unit is the meter you will be billed for. Ask to see a recent bill and whether any amount is outstanding. In a divided house, establish whether common-area electricity, water pumps or backup systems are shared and how those costs are divided.
Backup power and solar
If the property advertises solar, UPS or generator backup, ask exactly which circuits it serves and whether batteries, maintenance or fuel are included. “Solar installed” does not necessarily mean air-conditioning or every appliance can run on backup.
Write utility arrangements down
Any unusual arrangement—shared meter, tanker contribution, common pump, generator fee or solar maintenance—should be understood before the tenancy begins. Small recurring disagreements are much easier to prevent than to settle later.
